Fun Holidays to Celebrate in August

Every American has a favorite holiday that they look forward to celebrating every year. We’ve previously written about Cinco de Mayo, Independence Day, and Father’s Day. Still, there are other fun holidays worth celebrating in August that are less known.

August 14 – Free Comic Book Day!

FREE COMICS! That’s right. F-R-E-E!

The North American Comic Book sector annually promotes Free Comic Book Day to engage long-time enthusiasts and new readers. Free Comic Book Day, annually celebrated in May, but due to COVID restrictions, will be held on August 14, 2021.

Diamond Comic Distributors, the largest distributor of comic books, facilitates the holiday and has done so since 2002. However, North American comics have deep, historical roots going as far back as the Great Depression.

Since then, Free Comic Book Day has grown into a global phenomenon, spreading throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia.

August 15 – National Back to School Prep Day

School is just around the corner, so parents and students should mark National Back To School Prep Day on their calendars. This coming school year will start on a different foot for many of us, with continued virtual classes and hybrid learning due to COVID restrictions and county guidelines.

Quoting Benjamin Franklin, "If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail," to inspire preparedness for National Back to School Prep Day as part of the fun holidays to celebrate in August.

Though not so much one of the more fun holidays, this day provides the opportunity to begin planning for the exciting new school year ahead. Do you have all the supplies that you need? Paper, pencils, pens, notebooks, etc. Now’s the time to think about this stuff and take advantage of any and all back-to-school sales, plan out daily routines, and set up a study workstation.

Ironically, August 15 is also National Relaxation Day! So, after you’ve crossed everything off your checklist, then take a load off. Or do nothing! Enjoy the rest of your day to kick back and do anything.

August 28 – National Bow Tie Day

National Bow Tie Day is the only holiday that celebrates the once underrated accessory. The bow tie has grown more popular due to being a signature piece worn by iconic, quirky, brainy, stylish, and debonair characters.

It’s the perfect accessory to compliment any outfit and show off your character. Go out and strut your stuff!
